How does the website / shopping cart membership system work?
Solution

If you've been wondering how the website / shopping cart membership system works then here's your answer.

Firstly, you'll need to understand that even though every looks like one complete system on the front end of your website, as far as the back-end works it's more like 2 separate systems.

A) Your website members - you can control what these members can access on your website.
B) Your shopping cart customers - a shopping cart account is required to place orders.

Having said that let me know explain how registration and the two system actually come together in 2 different scenarios.

  1. When a visitor registers on your website as a member, they will be subject to the access restrictions you have set for the website eg. special content, etc. - this DOES NOT create a shopping cart account for them.
  2. When a visitor registers on your shopping cart an account is created for them in both the shopping cart AS WELL as your website.
That's the difference between the two registration types.
